Pederson calls for a political solution to the tension in North-East Syria
The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, called for a political solution to the tension in NE Syria between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and factions affiliated with the Turkish occupation.
Pederson told Reuters on Monday that if the situation in North-East Syria is not dealt with properly, it could be a major bad omen for the whole of Syria.
He added: “If we fail here, it will have dire consequences when it comes to new displacement.”
The UN envoy indicated that the political solution “will require very serious concessions and must be part of the transitional phase.”
Turkey and its affiliated factions have been escalating their attacks on areas in North-East Syria since the fall of the former Syrian regime, amid fears that the conflict will escalate further.
