Since yesterday, Saturday, the city of Raqqa has witnessed a complete interruption of drinking water and the suspension of filtration stations due to the recent torrential rains in the city.

The director of the water unit in Raqqa, Ibrahim al-Sheikh, told Aso News Network that the torrential rains in Raqqa during the past two days led to floods in the Balikh River, which flows into the Euphrates River.

We had to stop the work of water purification plants because of the mixing of turbid water with drinking water, and this matter would negatively affect the health and safety of the residents, he said.

He pointed out that the water began to gradually return to the city’s neighborhoods, after the completion of filtering the area surrounding the drinking water treatment plants.

The Balikh River witnessed a major flood that damaged some agricultural crops and drinking water purification plants, after two days of heavy rain.
