The Autonomous Administration intends to begin prosecuting detained Daesh foreigners

The Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria decided, in a statement published today, Saturday, on its official Facebook page, to bring the foreign ISIS members detained to public trials.

The Autonomous Administration described these trials, which are scheduled to take place, and whose start date has not been specified, as “fair and transparent,” indicating that they will comply with international and domestic laws on terrorism, and will be conducted in a manner that preserves the rights of the plaintiffs and their family members.

The statement indicated that the Autonomous Administration has repeatedly called on the international community to carry out its responsibilities in finding solutions to the file of detained ISIS elements, and that it has put forward initiatives for all concerned countries and human rights and international organizations in order to form an international tribunal, or a court of an international nature, in order for ISIS elements to appear before it according to what is available to the Administration institutions to provide with irrefutable evidence and documents convicting them of committing the most horrific terrorist crimes.

The statement considered that the remaining of these criminals in detention centers without any trial is contrary to international laws and agreements, in addition to the increasing danger of the security situation in the event that they remain and continue in this situation.

The Autonomous Administration clarified that its decision to conduct this trial does not mean that it abandons its opinion on the need to establish an international tribunal, or a court of an international nature for the file of ISIS terrorists.

The Autonomous Administration’s statement called on the international community to respond to the formation of an international tribunal, calling on the international coalition to combat terrorism, the United Nations, relevant international human rights organizations, and local organizations to engage positively, be present, and provide support during all stages of trials.
