Local transport drivers in the city of Tabqqa have been on strike since yesterday, demanding an increase in the amount of their fuel allocations.

The amount of internal transportation allocations was reduced to 240 liters of diesel several months ago, while they were receiving 400 liters per month.

A number of internal transportation drivers told ASO News Network that the current allocations of fuel are not sufficient for their monthly needs.

Drivers face difficulty in securing free diesel from the markets, in addition to the high prices of diesel, which constitutes a burden on them, especially with the high prices of maintenance and spare parts after the rise in the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Syrian pound.

Drivers are calling for an increase in their fuel allowance to 600 liters per month.

The co-chair of the People’s Municipality in Tabqqa, Abdulaziz Al-Mustafa, explained to ASO News Network that the municipality received the drivers’ complaints and contacted the Fuel Directorate in order to hold a meeting to discuss the drivers’ demands and resolve them as quickly as possible.
