Human Rights Watch said in its latest report issued yesterday, Tuesday, that Turkey sponsors Syrian factions accused of committing serious crimes.

The organization criticized the meeting of the leader of the Turkish National Movement Party, Devlet Bahçeli, a partner supporting the government of President Erdogan, and the meeting of the convicted mafia leader Alaeddin Cakici, separately, with the leaders Saif Abu Bakr and Mohammad Al-Jassim, the leaders of “Al-Hamzat Division” and “Sultan Suleiman Shah Division” factions loyal to the to the Turkish occupation.

It considered that welcoming them means that Turkey is severely failing to deter violations committed by the groups it supports.

The United States accuses the two groups of committing abuses that include extrajudicial killings, kidnapping, torture, extortion, sexual violence, and confiscation of property.

The organization reminded that the areas under their control in northern Syria are lawless and unsafe, and held Turkey responsible, as long as it “reinforced the environment of impunity in the areas it occupies in northern Syria.”
