Kobani Water Crisis Exacerbates Residents’ Suffering Amid Power Outages
Kobani residents complain about the continued water outage in most homes, following attacks launched by armed factions affiliated with the Turkish occupation on the Qarqozak Bridge and Tishreen Dam.
This coincides with the power outage that has entered its second week in a row, as residents are forced to buy water from tankers at high prices, ranging between 50 and 70 thousand Syrian pounds for a single tank with a capacity of 5 barrels.
Abdo Khalil, a resident of Kobani, confirmed to ASO News Network that water has not reached his home for more than a week, which forced him to buy it despite its high cost, noting that this water is not subject to examination and analysis, which increases their concern about its safety, especially with the urgent need to use it for daily needs.
Khalil added that the high prices of water have created an additional burden for them, as they are forced to fill water every two or three days, depending on the number of family members.
The Water Directorate of the Autonomous Administration in Kobani also explained to our correspondent that the power outage at the main water pumps in Al-Idha’a and Mishtanur forced them to use artesian wells as an emergency solution.
The directorate indicated that it pumps water for limited hours daily, starting from 8 pm until 11 pm, which has led to a weak access to most homes in the city, while the villages remain completely deprived of water
