“Repentance”… ISIS’ unjust law against teachers

Teachers suffered under the control of ISIS over areas in Syria, as is the case with the rest of society, from the unjust laws of the organization and the domination of its security services and al-Hisba over them, but the organization singled out workers in the education sector with the system of “repentance” and retribution (execution) in case of violating this the system.

The “repentance” was based on the teachers’ pledge not to teach any educational curricula, except for the curricula imposed by ISIS, through which the teachers were obligated to sign it and disavow what they described as the “blasphemy” curriculum, in addition to the punishment in case of violation, which is the application of the qisas ruling (execution). beheaded or shot) against violators and be hanged in public squares, in an attempt to impose its extremist curricula and ideas, and force teachers to teach those curricula.

The terrorist organization ISIS imposed this system in the areas of its control in Syria and Iraq, and it included all teachers and proxy teachers who worked in the education system for the Syrian government.

She said (Y.H), one of the teachers who signed the “repentance” paper under duress, and pledged not to recognize the curricula of the Syrian government, and to refrain from teaching any curricula other than the curricula of the organization.

“The process of “repentance” took place in front of three ISIS women, or what they call within the organization as (sisters), and after signing the pledge, one of them told me that God’s rule will be applied on earth, which is retribution and slaughter if you teach the system’s curriculum, and thus you have signed the You will die,” said one of the teachers, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

She added that she used to teach young children, teaching them the principles of reading, writing and arithmetic in secret, while the students hid pens and notebooks under their clothes for fear that the elements of the organization, especially the elements of al-Hisba, would see them.

ISIS-controlled areas witnessed cases of arrest of teachers on charges of secretly teaching a curriculum other than the organization’s curriculum, and the accused were detained in ISIS security centers, especially the “Al-Burj” center in Tabqqa and Point 11 (the black stadium) in Raqqa, which are two of the most famous centers of the organization, and most of the detainees faced the fate of enforced disappearance in the organization’s prisons.

While many teachers fled from the areas controlled by the organization to the areas controlled by the Syrian government, fearing for their lives and the lives of their families.

The teacher (A.KH.) refused to sign the letter of repentance, and was forced to leave the area and take refuge in another area for fear of the oppression of the elements of the organization, especially since the punishment (retribution) was one of the most terrifying words in the hearts of parents and teachers.

He tells Aso News Network that one of the organization’s members called “Abu Al-Harith” asked him to come forward for “repentance,” but he rejected this system and could not express his refusal, so he left the area with his family for fear that he would be incriminated to ISIS and that he would be killed. “I received several messages of intimidation and threats from ISIS, and they asked me to return to the area and declare repentance, but I did not respond despite the intimidation and I stayed outside the area until the city was liberated from the organization, and the organization confiscated my house under the pretext that its owner was an “infidel” and “apostate” and did not He signs the repentance,” he said.

The terrorist organization ISIS took control of areas in Iraq starting in 2013, and its areas of control extended to Syria in 2014, to include cities in north-east Syria, which are Raqqa, Tabqa, Deir ez-Zor, Kobani, and Manbij.

In 2015, the organization issued the “Repentance” system for teachers, that is, less than a year after it took control of the cities of Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Forces, with the support of the international coalition forces led by the United States of America, were able to defeat the terrorist organization ISIS after operations that lasted for three years, and the last strongholds of the organization (Al-Baghouz in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor) were liberated in March 2019.
