The people of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh are keen to buy wood-burning heaters
The people of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in Aleppo are agreeing to buy wood heaters instead of diesel heaters after the high prices of diesel and the insufficient quantity distributed by the Autonomous Administration.
Aso News Network correspondent in Aleppo said that the price of a ton of firewood in the two neighborhoods reached two million Syrian pounds, while the price of a ton of olive tree firewood, which is distinguished by its long burning, reached 600 thousand Syrian pounds.
“Ahmed Abdullah,” the owner of a store selling used tools, told Aso News Network that the price of a wood-burning stove ranges between 150 to 250 thousand Syrian pounds, while the price of a diesel stove ranges between 450 to 600 thousand Syrian pounds.
Jassim Shaaban, owner of a firewood store in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, told Aso News Network, “We find it difficult to secure firewood from the northern and eastern Aleppo countryside, as the difficulty lies in bringing firewood to the neighborhood through government checkpoints.”
Shaaban added: People prefer olive tree firewood because it burns for longer periods, unlike crushed firewood and peels.
Meanwhile, “Fikret Hussein” told Aso News Network, due to the delay in delivering diesel allotments, she resorted to buying a wood-burning stove, especially after the price of a liter of free diesel reached 20,000 Syrian pounds.
Many families in both neighborhoods spend the winter without using any means of heating due to the poor living conditions, and they are content with using blankets to protect themselves from the winter cold.
