A picture and a story…the oldest pastry maker in Tabqqa
The fifty-year-old uncle, Mohammad Abu Ali, has been making pastries in the city of Tabqqa since he was fifteen years old.
Abu Ali comes from one of the oldest families working in making bread and pastries in the region, and the family inherited this profession from fathers and grandfathers.
Abu Ali’s family’s origins go back to the city of Aleppo. His father has settled in Tabqqa since the founding of the city in the seventies of the last century, and his father opened a bakery on the wide street in the city.
Since 1995, Abu Ali has succeeded in building a good reputation, and his simple shop has become a popular destination for the city’s residents and visitors.
Abu Ali tells Aso News Network that his profession is part of his identity, and he strives to preserve the profession of his father and grandfathers in Aleppo, by teaching it to his children as well, so that this profession remains a legacy that is passed down through the generations in this family, as he puts it.
He expresses his happiness in reviving traditions and preserving bread and pastry making, especially maarook making during the month of Ramadan.
