Biden extends the state of emergency around Syria for another year
The White House announced, in a statement, on Thursday, that US President Joe Biden has extended the US “national emergency” related to Syria for another year.
The statement, quoting Biden, said: The Damascus government’s actions and policies, “including those related to chemical weapons and support for terrorist organizations, continue to pose an extraordinary threat to American national security.”
Pointing out that the United States condemns “the brutal violence, human rights violations, and transgressions of Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian supporters.”
The statement stressed the need to activate a nationwide ceasefire, facilitate the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all Syrians in need, and negotiate a political settlement in Syria in line with UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.
