Activists in the regions of Northeast Syria condemned the role played by groups representing the Syrian civil society (the opposition), by distinguishing through civil work between the regions of Northern Syria and Northeast Syria, in terms of aligning with the idea of occupying in one place and occupying in another one on the Syrian land.

The activists published comments, in which they accused the “Syrian Networks Association”, a grouping of Syrian civil society organizations (based in Turkey), of trying to limit the tragedy of the Syrians in the country to specific areas inside Syria, and turning a blind eye to other affected areas, with the goal, motives and personal interests.

“The Association of Syrian Networks”, which includes some organizations working in Northeast Syria, and supported by the UNDP and OCHA, as international organizations, has written a letter in the name of the Syrian civil society NGOs to the Fourth International Brussels Conference on Syria, the journalist and human rights activist “Masoud Akko” wrote on his Facebook page.
He added that the Syrian (opposition) civil society organizations believe that the only region that should receive the support of the international community is “Idlib”, and that other regions in Syria are neutralized of interest and support.

The journalist pointed out that the message sent to the Brussels conference organized by the European Union indicates that the only occupation on Syrian lands is the occupation of Russia, while the same organizations refuse to consider the Turkish presence in Afrin, Ras al-Ain, Tal Abiyad, Al-Bab and Jarablus as an occupation of Syrian lands (..) .

The Brussels conference will be held on June 30, at the level of foreign ministers, and will be using virtual meeting techniques.

Discussions took place in closed meetings of the organizations, where civil society organizations working in Northeast Syria discussed the consideration of all foreign powers in Syria as occupying powers, but “the Syrian Networks Association rejected the formula, while according to personalities within the Association of Networks room, many organizations Operating under the umbrella of the Syrian Networks Association, described the Turkish presence in Syria as a positive matter, which contradicts the values of civil society, as described by civil society organizations in Northeast Syria.

The Syrian civil society is divided according to the division of an opposition civil society, operating in the areas of opposition and Turkish occupation, and a working civil society in Northeast Syria in the Self-Administration areas, and a Syrian civil society operating in areas under the control of the regime.

The opposition civil society is trying to monopolize the Syrian civil work, as many organizations working in the opposition civil society classify organizations operating in the areas of the Syrian regime’s control as belonging to the regime, and that civil society operating in Northeast Syria is subject to the authority of self-Admininstration led by the Democratic Union Party, Whereas, the last two parties accuse the opposition civil society that Turkey controls its work, as a result of dependency and its work from Turkey.

The journalist, Masoud Akko, says in the post that most civil society organizations affiliated to the opposition have bases and offices in Turkey, and due to their interests and the interests of their employees, rejecting any formula against what Turkey is committing in Syria, accusing it of violating the values and culture of civil society, human rights, That these organizations have to show.

Akko adds that the most dangerous thing is that some of these organizations never see Turkey as an occupation, and that Turkey does not commit any violations against the Syrian citizens in the Syrian territories occupied by Turkey.

The journalist, “Akko” mentioned in the post which Aso News Network contacted him to obtain permission to use it as a reference, that the message addressed by the Association of Press Networks, despite its focus on medical and health needs, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it focuses on “Idlib” only, ”
As if the virus is confined to that region and no one else … affirming that the role of civil society should think in light of this pandemic of the reality of Syria as a whole and its geography, “All of Syria today needs humanitarian support, and not only the areas of Jabhat Al-Nusra control.”

The organizations operating in North-East Syria accused the civil society organizations affiliated to the opposition of monopolizing the coming support for the Syrian people, and using all means to prevent any support from reaching the regions of Northeast Syria (the Kurdish areas), with Turkish orders, and personal interests of the employees of these organizations.

The Association of Syrian Networks is an association that gathers the coordination bodies of Syrian civil society organizations, as it defines itself on its Facebook page, and its vision towards a unified Syrian civil society that is combined by a transparent coordination mechanism within credible, participatory, and pluralistic frameworks.

Civil society is known as organizations created by people working to advocate a common cause, and that the advantage it brings, according to what is stated in “Wikipedia”, is its independence from the government and the private sector, at least in principl.
