Civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction as a result of the Turkish bombing of the regions of North-East Syria
A child was injured in Manbij and four women in Derik/Al-Malikiyah, on Saturday, due to renewed Turkish bombing on various areas in North-East Syria.
The Turkish escalation a few days ago caused the death of at least 20 people, including civilian and military casualties, and dozens of injuries.
Meanwhile, Turkish forces renewed their shelling with heavy artillery on the villages of Dardara and Umm al-Kif, north of Tal Tamr, without information being received about human losses.
Turkey targeted several sites on Saturday morning in the city of Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli on the northern belt and the industrial garage near a prison containing ISIS members in the city of Derik/Al-Malikiyah, and four women working in a cheese and dairy factory were injured.
The Turkish bombing of the headquarters of the Internal Security Forces “Asayish” in the city of Amuda also resulted in the injury of eight civilians, who were taken to hospitals in Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli and Amuda, as well as successive Turkish air strikes on “Garzero” oil company in the countryside of Derik/Al-Malikiyah.
The Internal Security Forces of North-East Syria said in a statement on Saturday that Turkey had bombed its areas since last Wednesday evening (October 23) with 680 strikes.
According to the statement, the Turkish bombing resulted in the death of 17 people, including 3 soldiers, and the wounding of 48 others.
It stated, in a non-final tally, that the Turkish attacks were distributed as follows: “The drones carried out 99 strikes, while the warplanes bombed 13 times, while 573 mortar shells fell, bringing the general total to 686 strikes.”
Turkey targeted three electricity conversion stations: “Kobani, Amuda, and Tirbespiyê/Al-Qahtaniyah,” which were completely out of service.
While the strikes affected more than ten oil fields in North-East Syria, which will have a negative impact on the people in all areas.
Doctors Without Borders, which works in camps in North-East Syria, urged all warring parties to give priority to the safety of civilians and to refrain from targeting basic infrastructure during this conflict.
The humanitarian organization said in a statement, on its official website, that the recent escalation targets civilian infrastructure and damages health care facilities, leading to civilian casualties, and it is almost certain that this escalation will severely affect people’s access to basic services, and will exacerbate the situation. “Social and economic impact of a region already devastated by more than a decade of conflict.”
In turn, on Saturday, local organizations called on the international coalition and Washington to intervene immediately to stop the Turkish attacks and close the airspace to drones and warplanes targeting the infrastructure of the regions of North-East Syria.
The organizations’ statement in front of the United Nations High Commissioner’s building in Qamishlo called on the international coalition led by the United States of America to reject destabilization and undermine efforts to combat ISIS.
Civil society organizations called on the UN Security Council, the United Nations, and the European Union to take immediate measures to protect civilians from the ongoing Turkish attacks on the regions of North-East Syria.
The statement also called on the Independent International Commission of Inquiry and the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism of the United Nations to intensify the collection of evidence about human rights violations committed by all parties to the conflict against civilians and civilian objects throughout Syria.
