Local organizations in northern and eastern Syria are trying to fill the vacuum of international organizations in the face of internal displacement from Turkish aggression
The number of families displaced to Qamishli city reached to 500 families distributed between the rented houses and the only shelter center in the city, which was opened in the school of Liwa, on 15/09/2019
Regarding the mechanism to meet the needs of these displaced people, Amina Issa, an administrative official, said that the center received families in increasing numbers, reaching 13 families and 60 displaced among children, women and adolescents. All their needs were provided with sponges and blankets as well as mattresses and pillows. Distribute rooms to them in cooperation with international and local organizations.
Amina Issa pointed out to the cooperation of the local people and organizations in the city and provide them with the aid so that all the relief materials were provided through the local organizations operating in Qamishli in addition to personal donations from individuals who contributed in providing material and material assistance.
She said: The cooperation of the people expressed a real sense of responsibility towards their displaced brothers in all honesty, transparency and a sense of tragic situation for them.
She pointed out that the demand for personal donations was large and sincere, and the donors refrained from registering their names on the third day of sheltering families in the center, pointing out that the Evangelical Church visited the center and provided money to 19 families, and the church expressed its willingness to provide any assistance for the displaced.
UNHCR has provided some non-food items of detergents, kitchen supplies and others.
We have plans to receive the winter but the possibilities are limited
Regarding the arrival of winter, Amina Issa explained her concern by saying: our suffering will be exacerbated if these families stay here because we are equipping the center day by day according to the possibilities. She said that there is an association that has taken care of providing heaters for families, and that they will provide them with winter clothes soon.
The children of the center desperately need psychological support
Amina Issa revealed to Aso News Network about the psychological state of the children and talked about their bad condition. To fill the gap through coordination with some of the competent authorities to provide psychological support, and provide them with some games and the opening of classrooms and education seminars, they just want to return to their homes and this is very difficult at least now
about the difficulties facing the NGO office, she said, “We, the NGO office, have difficulties. It is the lack of permanent shelters because their stay here at school creates a big problem: stopping education.
“We have completed the distribution of all food, health and basic relief items, but the humanitarian situation of the displaced remains painful as there is a shortage of basic commodities and concerns about the availability of protection,” said Amina Issa, the administrative officer.
