The Autonomous Administration intends to draw drinking water from the countryside of Amuda to al-Hasakah
The co-chair of the Water Department of the Autonomous Administration in al-Hasakah, Issa Younis, revealed, in an exclusive statement to ASO News Network, on Saturday, the Autonomous Administration’s intention to implement a project to draw drinking water from the countryside of Amuda to the city of al-Hasakah.
The project is 60 km long and has an estimated cost of $40 million, according to Younis.
The official in the Water Department explained that they are waiting to secure the pipes to start implementing the project.
Wells will be drilled in each of the villages of Sanjak Saadoun, Qazlajokh, and Kandour Saadoun (10 km south of Amuda) to draw potable water according to international standards to al-Hasakah, according to the same source.
Younis stated that the project will be an alternative to the Alouk station, located in Serekaniye/occupied Ras al-Ain.
He pointed out that “the project will not completely end the water problem in al-Hasakah, but it will alleviate the water crisis,” as he put it.
And the official in the Autonomous Administration stated that their project will not negatively affect the groundwater in the region and it will contribute to reducing the water securing crisis for many years to come, he said.
He stressed that the cost of the project is fully borne by the Autonomous Administration without any support provided by international relief organizations operating in the region.
More than a million people in the city of al-Hasakah and its countryside suffer from a water crisis, especially after the occupation of SereKaniye / Ras al-Ain by Turkey and its loyal factions, which resort from time to time to cutting off water from Alouk station, which is the main source that feeds the region with the aim of undermining the stability of the region, causing a major humanitarian crisis and depriving the people of access to drinking water.
