A number of producers and owners of sewing workshops, and some merchants, have launched individual humanitarian initiatives in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods of Aleppo, aiming to distribute infant formula and some necessary necessities such as (baby clothes, sums of money, and diapers) to civilians in the two neighborhoods.

The two neighborhoods were damaged as a result of the February 6 earthquake, which affected areas in Syria and Turkey.

The civil aid targeted families living in shelter tents, or people who had taken refuge in halls and some shops that have been closed for a long time.

The residents of the two neighborhoods live in deteriorating living conditions, due to the earthquake and the continuous aftershocks.

Regarding the living conditions in the two neighborhoods, Maryam Hanan, a resident of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, told Aso News Network correspondent: “We are 4 families who live in a shop that has been closed for a long time. We moved to live in the shop after our homes were damaged and became uninhabitable.”

Maryam stated that aid was provided to them, which consisted of financial assistance and clothes to secure the urgent needs of the families.

For her part, Zahra Habbo, a resident of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, says that they, as a family, have been living in a tent since the day of the earthquake, and she adds, “We received several aids from people who distributed them individually, provided by donors, and they included foodstuffs, canned food, and baby towels. They also provided infant formula four times in a row.”

Zahra shows that despite the small amounts of aid provided, the individual assistance was first aid.

Zahra questions the aid distribution mechanism, saying, “Many of those affected did not receive aid despite the arrival of trucks loaded with aid, but we do not know how or where it is distributed.”

It is noteworthy that individual initiatives, and multiple events from various Syrian regions, have launched several initiatives to collect donations for those affected since the first days of the earthquake.
