The continued closure of some roads in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh due to the presence of residential buildings that are threatened with collapse
Several streets are still closed in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods due to the presence of residential buildings that are threatened to collapse as a result of the earthquake that struck the area on February 6, and the residents are afraid of the collapse of these residential buildings due to the presence of cracks and fissures in them.
The buildings overlook streets through which cars pass permanently, and they are considered the artery of entry and exit to the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods.
The correspondent of Aso News Network in Aleppo said that these streets were closed as a result of the presence of residential buildings that were threatened to collapse at any moment and were not demolished due to the lack of heavy machinery to remove them.
He added that a residential building near the railway has been removed due to its extreme danger, while the residents are demanding that the rest of the residential buildings that are threatened with collapse be removed, and the streets in which these residential buildings are located are closed.
“Mohammed Jamil,” a resident of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, told Aso News Network, because of the presence of a residential building near the “Antoine Aswad” school, the entire street is closed, and since its closure, the damaged building has not been demolished, and there is a heavy traffic jam due to the closure and the change of the road of the vehicles way which are forced to take the subsidiary streets. And he indicated that there are promises to remove the building and demolish it, but there are no heavy machinery to demolish the building, and the situation may remain like this for months, which increases the danger to us because it is a dangerous building in terms of any new earthquake that will cause it to fall.
Passers-by are afraid that the buildings will fall over their heads. Nadia Omar, a resident of the Ashrafiyeh neighborhood, told Aso News Network, we are changing our path and we are afraid that these residential buildings will fall on us as we pass near them. Closing streets or roads will not help, but these buildings must be demolished because they have become frightening and they will fall suddenly, which can cause deaths and injuries due to lack of attention or failure to secure heavy machinery to remove it, which is an unconvincing reason.
Dozens of residential buildings cracked in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods as a result of the earthquakes that occurred during the past month, while several other residential buildings cracked, as the Technical Committee of the People’s Municipality evacuated a large number of residential buildings in the two neighborhoods because of the danger of living in them.
