Last week, a picture spread on social media showing the emergence of the flag of the terrorist organization ISIS on one of the roundabouts of the city of Solouk in the countryside of Raqqa, occupied by Turkey and under the control of the Syrian National Army.

The city, which is under the control of Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction, witnessed, on March 28, the emergence of an image of the ISIS flag on a model in the market roundabout, as it is called, or the globe roundabout previously.

An image of an ISIS logo appeared, placed in the roundabout in the center of the town. Aso News Network was able to follow the image, and in contact with activists in the city, it was confirmed that the image is from the city of Solouk in the countryside of Raqqa.

The sources confirmed to Aso News Network that the town is witnessing continuous activities of ISIS cells in the city, in addition to the emergence of people wearing the traditional clothes of ISIS.

The town of Solouk was under the control of ISIS before it was liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces and the International Coalition in June 2015, and in October 2019 during Operation “Peace Spring” in which Turkey occupied areas in the east of the Euphrates, the town of Solouk was controlled, which is currently under the control of Ahrar al-Sharqiya affiliated with the Syrian National Army.

Ahrar al-Sharqiya Army is responsible for killings and assassinations that put the faction on terrorist lists.

Returning to the slogan in the town of Suluk, the sources said that a Turkish military patrol removed the sign belonging to ISIS that was placed in a roundabout in the town of Suluk, hours after seeing it on the roundabout, but the sources confirmed that Turkey did not take any action and investigation in the matter.

The sources stated that the emergence of ISIS slogans is repeated in the city, where slogans were seen in the alleys of roads and neighborhoods in Suluk during the past week, in neighborhoods including the school district and the southern region.

According to the sources, the Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction includes former ISIS members and leaders under its leadership, as they try from time to time to highlight signs showing the presence of the organization and its cells in the areas occupied by Turkey.

It is not the first time that signs appear showing the presence of ISIS in the ranks of the Syrian National Army and the areas under the control of the Turkish occupation. With the occupation of the city of Afrin in March 2018, elements dressed as the organization appeared and presented chants belonging to the organization and threatened the people of Afrin from Jabal al-Ahlam.

In October 2020, during a demonstration in the occupied city of Serêkaniyê / Ras al-Ain, ISIS slogans appeared among demonstrators dressed as ISIS against French cartoons, as the demonstration was against cartoons described as “offensive to the Messenger.”
