Yesterday, Wednesday, two children from the city of Raqqa drowned while trying to swim in the Euphrates River in Raqqa.

According to the correspondent of Aso News Network in Raqqa, the rescue teams were unable to save the two children, and the process of trying to retrieve their bodies continued until Thursday morning, after hours of continuous searching.

Ahmed al-Hajj, a diver working in the initial response team in Raqqa, told Aso News Network that they had received a report yesterday, Wednesday, from the Old Bridge area, about the drowning of two children in the Euphrates River.

Al-Hajj added that the process of exhuming the two bodies continued until Thursday morning, when the two bodies were delivered to the National Hospital in Raqqa, and they were identified by their families.

The body of one of the two children was found, after it was washed away by the river, in al-Mashlab area.

Drowning cases have increased in the Euphrates River in Raqqa, starting from the summer, and this comes because swimming conditions in the river are not taken into account.

One of the reasons for drowning is the lack of guards around the river to prevent swimming, in addition to the lack of awareness and guidance programs surrounding the dangers of swimming in the river.

One of the residents of Raqqa (whose name has not been revealed) says that the Autonomous Administration, civil society organizations and the media have the role of carrying out support and awareness campaigns to stop drowning cases in the river.
