Activists and civil society organizations in North-East Syria sent a message to the United Nations, its bodies, institutions, and organizations, the international coalition against ISIS, international organizations, foreign countries, the European Union, the Islamic Conference, the League of Arab States, and the Vatican.

The letter stated: “What our neighbor Turkey, with whom we share long borders, and cultural commonalities of customs, traditions, lifestyles and other ties, is doing, but the practices of the Turkish neighbor of continuous escalation, barbaric bombing, continuous strikes on vital and civilian facilities, frequent occupation of more lands, and displacement and replacement of residents.” With other residents from outside the region in a clear demographic change, all of the above affected cities, towns, villages, and large areas of North-East Syria, in addition to causing the destruction of infrastructure, destabilization of civil peace, and mass displacement, and the resulting creation of renewed crises that can no longer be tolerated. And its repercussions exceeded the ability to bear.”

The letter stated that this dangerous Turkish persistence is unprecedented and unjustified, and that it destabilizes and creates a suitable and fertile environment for the forces of extremism and terrorism, and hinders attempts to establish a state of coexistence and peace.

It added that Turkey occupies parts of Syrian territory, which raises the slogan of combating terrorism but in reality supports it, and blatantly violates all norms and considerations imposed by international humanitarian law and human rights conventions, exceeding all considerations of good neighborliness and common interests.

The activists called on international bodies to adhere to their historical, moral and humanitarian responsibilities and take action to deter these attacks, and to exert all forms of pressure on the Turkish side to adopt a more realistic and rational policy, through the language of dialogue and negotiations, in order to establish the pillars of peace and stability in Syria and the region in general.

The letter called for taking immediate and urgent measures, stopping the Turkish attacks, and forming a fact-finding committee whose mission is to monitor all violations and point out violations, threats, violations, and attacks on infrastructure, which naturally lead to innocent victims.
