Increased demand for drilling wells to secure drinking water in al-Darbasiyah
The city of al-Darbasiyah is witnessing an increase in the demand of the people for drilling artesian wells there, as al-Darbasiyah Water Department recently granted licenses to drill 15 artesian wells with a depth of 50 meters in different areas.
Mohammad Daadoush, a resident of al-Darbasiyah, told Aso News Network: I dug an artesian well at my own expense, after the water was cut off for a week, after the Turkish occupation destroyed the water station, so I obtained a license from the city’s water department.
Daadush points out that the well will cover the needs of the people of the neighborhood in which he lives, as the cost of digging the well amounted to 1,000 US dollars (approximately 15 million Syrian pounds), noting that he signed a pledge not to use the well except in times of need.
Khansaa Jomard, from the technical office of the Al-Darbasiyah Water Department of the Autonomous Administration, told Aso News Network: “In order for the applicant to obtain a license to drill the well, he must submit a written pledge committing himself to operating the well in the event that water is completely cut off from the area. The applicant will also bear the costs.” Backfilling the well if it violates the instructions.”
Joumard stressed the importance of leaving a distance of no less than 200 meters between one well and another, in order to ensure benefit from it. The Water Department also inspected and determined the locations of the wells.
It is noteworthy that the reason for the increase in the people’s demand for drilling artesian wells is as a result of the Turkish occupation’s targeting of al-Darbasiyah water and electricity station, which led to it being out of service.
