6 out of 8 electrical generators in Tal Hajar neighborhood in the city of Al-Hasakah were damaged during the past few days due to a fire that broke out in the subscription generators.

A firefighter suffered minor burns as a result of the explosion of diesel tanks, while he and his companions were doing their work trying to put out the fire.

There are no accurate indications of the causes of the fire, while each party tries to explain what happened with different things, and opinions differ. Some say that the reason is the negligence of the generator owners and failure to follow safety procedures, and others attribute what happened to the excessive extraction of electricity by the residents, while the residents complain at the same time about Management of generator owners for subscriptions (..).

Bashar Younis, an administrator of the Generators Committee in the People’s Municipality in Al-Hasakah, says that the reason behind generator fire incidents is the negligence of the generator owners and their failure to follow safety procedures related to electrical faults, as he put it.

He added to ASO News Network that the Generators Committee licensed (597) generators in Al-Hasakah, and that they obligated generator owners to always have safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, near the generators, in order to immediately control any emergency that may occur.

For his part, Bashar Najm, the owner of a generator, told ASO News Network that the cause of the fire that broke out in the generators was an electrical short circuit. He also pointed to the excessive extraction of electricity by the residents, in addition to the poor quality of diesel.

People who own generators are suffering, as with the rise in temperatures, the need for electricity increases among the people, who suffer from high temperatures this summer.

Bashar Najm, a generator owner and one of those affected, said that his financial losses amounted to about 300,000 US dollars, noting that the generators were supplying 2,500 homes in the neighborhood with approximately 5,000 amps.

During the past six months, the Generators Committee in the Municipality of Al-Hasakah recorded the burning of eight generators, and the worker “Saleh Al-Khaled” lost his life while working as a guard on the generators of the Al-Najma neighborhood during the previous period.

This incident comes at a time when the people of Al-Hasakah are suffering from an almost complete loss of main electricity after the recent Turkish bombing of electricity and energy stations in mid-January at the beginning of this year.

The people have continued to suffer from electrical generators for years, as no solutions have been found for this problem, in light of the regular electricity outages due to the war in Syria, the inability of the generators to accommodate the people’s needs, and the lack of a plan that can solve the problem radically by the Autonomous Administration in Northern and eastern Syria.
