Activists on social media circulated new pictures of Al-Rasif Library in Kobani, northern Syria, empty of books only two months after its opening.

The poet and journalist Stere Jelo, who lives in Kobani, told ASO News Network that the library’s lack of books is a negative phenomenon, and its basic slogan, “Put a book and take a book,” contradicts its continuation as a cultural project in the city.

He added that the project was very popular at the beginning of its opening, and it was the first idea of its kind in Kobani to promote the culture of paper reading.

In late April of this year, the Youth and Development Company, as part of a series of literary projects, opened the “Al-Rasif Library” in the city of Kobani.

The idea of the library, which is available to all families every time, is based on the possibility of borrowing books, returning them, and placing surplus books to allow others to benefit from them, “Put a book and take a book.”

But two months after its opening, and as a result of books being taken from the library without returning them or replacing them, the library today is empty of books.
