The decline in services in public facilities in Qamishlo raises dissatisfaction with residents amid the absence of solutions
The people of the city of Qamishlo / Al-Qamishli are complaining about the recent decline in services in public facilities. The infrastructure has become worn out and maintenance is almost non-existent, in addition to the decline in attention to cleanliness, which negatively affects the visitors of these facilities, especially since they are considered an outlet for many of the city’s residents.
Jihan Abdo, a resident of Qamishlo, says: “I go to the March 12 Municipal Stadium” to practice sports on a daily basis, despite its severe need for care and repair of the places designated for walking, in addition to the danger of the platform made of tin and not well fixed, which poses a danger to the stadium’s patrons.
Heboun Ahmed complains about the decline in care for the public park in the city, and the lack of attention to its cleanliness, stressing the neglect of the cleanliness of the sanitary facilities in the park, in addition to the lack of containers designated for throwing trash.
Souad Asaad explains that although there are a number of parks in the city, they still suffer from a shortage of playing places for children, while the existing places have been damaged without being repaired.
Diyar Ibrahim, from the Sports and Youth Authority administration, attributes the reason for the decline in services at the 12 March Stadium to the lack of a sufficient budget during the past three years, which prevented the stadium from being repaired and the floor restored, and their work was limited to taking care of its cleanliness only, he said.
The Executive Committee of Qamishlo Municipality of the Autonomous Administration told ASO News Network that they have entrusted some public facilities to investors under official contracts, and they must take care of them under penalty of termination of the contract.
Alaa Mamo, an investor in the public park, believes that the People’s Municipality does not cooperate with them in securing some basic equipment, such as lighting and iron containers, to prevent them from being damaged or stolen. “Plastic containers were previously placed and were damaged,” Mamo explains.
