The US Central Command announced today, Tuesday, in a statement on its social media pages, that it was able, in cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces, to arrest an ISIS leader on the first of this month.

The statement noted that American forces, in coordination with the SDF, arrested “Khaled Ahmed al-Dandal,” whom the statement classified as one of the facilitators for providing support to detained ISIS fighters, including fighters escaping from a detention center in Raqqa.

The statement indicated that Al-Dandal provided facilities for ISIS fighters after they fled the protest centers.

The statement revealed that five ISIS members, “two Russians, two Afghans, and a Libyan,” escaped from a prison in Raqqa on August 29.

According to the statement, the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to arrest the Russian Abdul Wahid Ikhwan and the Libyan Mohammad Nouh Mohammad, while the search for the remaining three continues.

The US Central Command reiterated that it and coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces will work to ensure the lowest level of threat to the organization’s members’ escape opportunities.
