Complaints about the high and varying transportation fees on the Al-Darbasiyah-Amouda-Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli line
Passengers on the transportation line between the cities of Amuda, Al-Darbasiyah, and Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli complain about the high transportation fees and their disparity between coming and going, which burdens them financially, amid the absence of compliance with the tariff specified by the People’s Municipality.
“Hadeel Abdal,” a student who travels daily between Al-Darbasiyah and Qamishli, explains to ASO News Network that the fare has increased significantly compared to the previous period. She pays 7,000 Syrian pounds to go to Qamishlo, while she pays 9,000 Syrian pounds to return to Al-Darbasiyah, which increases the burden of expenses on her as a student.
Shivan Ahmed, a resident of Amuda, confirmed to ASO Network that the fare from Amuda to Qamishlo/Al -Qamishli during the past two weeks amounted to 5,000 Syrian pounds going to Qamishli, while on the way back it amounted to 10 and 11,000 Syrian pounds, an amount that is disproportionate to his income.
Shivan demands that the Monitoring Committee tighten control over drivers and spread a culture of complaints among residents.
“Aziza Jalal,” the administration of the internal transportation office in Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli, confirmed to ASO Network that no official decision has been issued by the administration regarding increasing the fare for public transportation, and the administration will take firm measures against violators.
Meanwhile, Najm al-Din Othman, the management of Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli Drivers Union, stated that there had been no previous complaint regarding drivers raising additional money for passengers.
