Kurdish National Council Announces Withdrawal from the Coalition and Negotiation Committee

The Kurdish National Council (KNC) announced today, Friday, February 7, its withdrawal from the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces and the Negotiation Committee, in a move that comes amid ongoing political shifts in Syria.
In an official statement, the council stated that its decision follows years of joint work within the Coalition and the Negotiation Committee. Throughout this period, the KNC participated in various negotiation tracks, including the Geneva talks and the Constitutional Committee, contributing to strengthening the national dimension of the Kurdish cause. However, the experience was accompanied by fundamental disagreements, despite the council’s commitment to defending its people’s interests through cooperation and constructive criticism.
The statement emphasized that the fall of the dictatorial regime and its departure have rendered the role of the Coalition and the Negotiation Committee obsolete at this stage, prompting the KNC’s decision to withdraw.
Furthermore, the statement underscored the necessity of developing political work based on a new vision aligned with current changes. This includes coordinating with various national forces to ensure the constitutional rights of the Kurdish people, alongside the rights of all Syrian communities.
The Kurdish National Council reaffirmed its commitment to joint efforts at both the Kurdish and broader Syrian national levels, aiming to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, justice, and democracy.
