Unknown fate of young men of a family… Arrest of a Kurdish family at a checkpoint in Homs during their return to Qamishlo

A checkpoint affiliated with the new Syrian government at the southern entrance to the city of Homs arrested men from a family that used to belong to the city of Qamishlo/Al-Qamishli.
The Kurdish family was arrested on the Homs-Damascus road on Friday evening, January 31, 2025, while returning from a medical trip from Damascus.
Sources close to the family told ASO News Network that the car was violated during its return, as the family was riding in a private car when it was stopped by elements of a military checkpoint affiliated with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham for inspection.
The source said that during the inspection, the elements confiscated the phone of a 17-year-old minor, and while browsing it, they found clips and pictures related to the funeral of the artist “Bave Tayar” and the flags of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
He added that the phones of the other young men in the car, Fadi, Nobar, and Lazkin (the driver), were subsequently confiscated and they were taken to a nearby military checkpoint.
According to the source, Lazkin Abdi, who recently underwent surgery, was accused of belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces, due to the similarity of his name to the name of the military commander Mazloum Abdi (..).
In return for taking and arresting the men, the forces forced the accompanying women to go to the Homs garage, where they were transferred to Qamishlo, while the young men were transferred to an unknown location. Since the moment of their arrest, no information has been received about their place of detention, despite the family’s continuous attempts to find out their fate.
This incident raises fears of escalating tensions among the components of Syrian society, especially in light of the arrests that target individuals based on their national or political affiliations, while such practices increase the state of congestion and lead to deepening the gaps between the different parties, which threatens the social fabric in the country.
It is noteworthy that this is the first case to occur on the Qamishlo-Homs road, at the same time that the people of the North-East regions of Syria resort to Damascus to receive treatment and medical examinations.
