The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced, in a statement issued today, Wednesday, March 13, 2025, its rejection of the Constitutional Declaration issued by the authorities in Damascus, stressing that it lacks Syrian national diversity and does not reflect the will of the various components of the Syrian people.

The statement stated that the new declaration bears the hallmarks of the same individualistic mentality against which the Syrian people rose up. It also represents a de facto falsification of Syria’s national and societal identity, as it did not take into account the participation of all Syrian components, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, and others.

The statement added that Syria today needs a comprehensive national consensus that guarantees the participation of all its people in determining their democratic future, instead of reproducing policies of exclusion and monopolization of power.

The Autonomous Administration also considered this constitutional declaration an obstacle to achieving true democracy in Syria, stressing the need to draft a constitution agreed upon by all components to ensure a sustainable future for next generations.

At the conclusion of its statement, the Autonomous Administration warned that a return to an exclusionary approach would return the Syrian crisis to the first square, potentially leading to the continuation of the Syrian bloodshed and the deepening of the people’s suffering.
